(29) dove lake circuit

60 Great Short Walks Tasmania Australia - National Parks and World Heritage SitesThe circuit around Dove Lake is regarded by many as one of Tasmania’s best walks. Although not a long walk at just under 6km, it passes through some wonderful sub alpine scenery, with the lake as the centerpiece and the towering spires of Cradle Mountain jutting high on the skyline above.

The walk starts and finishes where the Dove River enters the northern part of the lake. The circuit itself is graded at Level 2 with just one moderate hill for walkers to contend with.

Note that Level 2 tracks are rated as an easy walk for people with most levels of fitness. They generally have occasional steps and a formed gravel or hardened surface.

As with all wilderness walks, those intending to use the track should make sure that they have suitable footwear and clothing, including sun hat, sun block and sunglasses, along with a jersey and/or jacket. Because long sections of this walk are not under a tree canopy, but rather along the more exposed ridges surrounding the lake, walkers can be exposed to both the sun and the weather, which can be exceptionally changeable, with wind, rain and snow occurring in any month of the year.

Walkers should allow 2-hours to complete the 5.7km circuit.

Pets and firearms and bicycles are not permitted in the park.

Park entry fees DO apply.

Facilities:
There are picnic and toilet facilities at the start of the circuit.

Vehicle Access:
Take the C132 from Sheffield and it is a 1-hour drive to the lake. From Devonport the driving time is 1hr 25mins.
